Water Fowl
As with all breeds of exhibition poultry, waterfowl has its place in the Ohio National. Waterfowl also have 7 distinctive classes. For more complete information you may contact Eric Markley or consult the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection or the American Bantam Association Standard
The first of the classes we will cover on this page are the Bantam ducks these are likely the most popular of all waterfowl. Some of the breeds in the bantam duck class are the Call in all colors and the Mallards in all colors. One other very colorful of the bantam ducks is the Mandarin. This particular breed does not require you to have the State and Federal permits because they are not domestic to the United States. The Carolina Wood duck is also a popular breed for exhibition, but in this case you must have the state and federal permits to be able to possess and breed this particular duck. For more information on the bantam duck see Lou Horton’s bantam duck article.
Next we will look into the other 3 classes of ducks
First we have the heavy class. Some of the breeds in the heavy class are Pekin, Rouen, and Muscovy. The next class is the Medium Ducks, which includes breeds such as Cayuga, Crested and Buff. The third class of ducks is the Light Class, which include the Runner in all colors, Campbell, and Magpie.
Goose Classes are set up the same way as the ducks with 3 weight classes. The heavy goose classes are Toulouse, Embden, and African. The medium goose class includes but is not limited to these breeds American Buff and Saddleback Pomeranian. The light Goose Classes are not limited to just these breeds but a few examples are China, Canada, Egyptian.
